Weaving our way through the holiday season toward the end of the year allows for the mysterious unfolding of the grace and glory of the Divine to inspire our thoughts and reflections. In this most intimate time of the year, we have an opportunity to really look back on our year. The mix of emotions that arise represents the entire gamut of human experience. And yet, for me, the most compelling thought that arises is judgment, mostly judgment of myself. Did I give all that I could have given this year? What more could I have done to help myself to grow, expand, evolve? Is there a secret tally in my mind that overrides the knowingness of my heart that everything is exactly as it should be?
To quiet my inner critic, I engage in a ritual that I call my year-end Soul Check-in. As each year draws to a close, I carve out sacred time to reread my daily soul journal entries. As is my practice throughout the year, every morning when I wake up I spend time in silent meditation. When I consciously feel into my soul connection, I listen in the silence to the still inner voice that calmly provides me with step by step guidance. The unfurling of our greatness is guided by the gentle nudging, or sometimes forceful pulling, of our soul towards revealing our greatest purpose. This review process provides an opportunity to look back to identify the potentiality of what can be in the coming year. I have three avenues of inquiry to identify the clearest soul guidance messages that I have received during the year.
The three avenues for inquiry are based on a simple technique that I call Listen, Align and Act. Are you willing to try this experiential process with me? If you have a soul journal with guidance captured from throughout the year, read through your soul journal and jot down the key themes and messages that appeared. If you do not keep a soul journal, you can engage in this exercise by simply reflecting on the key messages that emerged during each month, or each season, of the past year.
This process is best completed in your favorite sacred place with uninterrupted quiet time for immersion into self-reflection and expansion So, go to your relaxing space, make yourself comfortable and allow yourself about thirty minutes to engage in our Listen, Align and Act session. Allow these questions to stimulate your reflection. Be as authentic as possible when writing down your answers. Ready? Here we go…
Listen: Did I give myself a few minutes in silence each day to consciously listen to my soul guidance? When I received a soul message, did I write it down? When I felt a strong intuition, did I take notice? If I had a vivid dream, was I compelled to write it down and then analyze the symbolism of the message? Were there overarching themes that emerged in my daily interactions with my family, friends and co-workers? What were the most profound synchronicities that happened this year? Looking back on the year as a whole, what is the most predominant and repetitive message that emerged? Does this message resonate with my heart?
Align: Based on the most prolific message, or messages, that emerged, now let’s take the next step. When you received the message, did you begin to think about how to align your current life with the action you are being asked to take? If you are being called and the call is becoming more urgent, are you willing to entertain changes in your relationships, career or health to take the next step? What will it take emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually to align your life with what is being asked of you? Are you courageous enough to write down one life alignment adjustment that would support your stepping forward into your most authentic soul-guided life?
Act: And now for the tough questions! If you took your first step today to enact your soul guidance in your life, what would that step be? Taking the one life alignment adjustment you identified, what step, or steps, are you willing to take right now? As you imagine what it would be like to take this step, what does it feel like? Does taking this step stir up emotions inside of you? Does it generate excitement and fear at the same time? When you feel into the potentiality of taking this step, can you imagine the miracles that could manifest by taking this one step? If you took this step, how would you be serving yourself? How would you be serving others?
When you have written down your answers to the Listen, Align, Act questions, I recommend putting your reflections aside for a day and letting them marinate until the next morning. Allowing the energy of your most intimate soul guidance to percolate with your highest knowing will result in the perfect way-showing of your next steps. When you read your wisdom the next morning, write down one action step on a piece of paper. Put this piece of paper in a place where you will see it every morning. By reading the action step every day, you will vibrationally expand your awareness to include this action and the walls of your reality will expand to allow it to be so.
Being brave enough to commit to taking one action step is the hallmark of leaping into a soul-guided life. The first leap can be the scariest, the rockiest and the most uncertain. It is also the most freeing. Your action is steeped in bravery. Your path illuminated by courage.
The only choice we have to make is whether or not we follow God’s Will. Taking a pause to reflect on the silent guidance that elicits the emergence of our most authentic self is a timeless ritual that will propel you into your true purpose. Congratulations on completing your year-end Soul Check-in! I am excited to see how your life unfolds in 2104 as you consciously choose to act on your soul guidance.
